For one of our clients in Amsterdam we are looking for a Private Cloud lead. This is a new and influential role that demands a high level of creativity and a genuine passion for new technology and methods.
In this role you are responsible for creating the new cloud platform, coaching the team and maintaining the mission critical cloud platform of our client.
Role Description
The company is a global player active in media – specifically in the streaming trans/encoding of television channels.
You will be part of a multi-disciplinary and relatively new team of skilled engineers that ensure the stability and speed of the mission critical private cloud platform of our client. As Private Cloud Lead you will be expected to take the lead in maintaining and improving a state of the art private cloud environment – partly based on RHEV/KVM and partly on VMware. With 100+ hypervisors and growing. The environment is configured using Puppet.
This role means fixing day-to-day issues but also developing and implementing mid to long term plans to improve the orchestration of compute, storage, network, and other private cloud services
You will also participate in global and European projects that require guidance and technical leadership from platform DevOps engineers like you.
Although your primary focus will be the private cloud orchestration, there is more than enough opportunity to widen your scope to interesting technologies in the database, networking, and application stack.
What we expect from you
- You have both excellent hands-on technical skills and leadership capacity;
- You have serious production experience at scale with the following virtualization technologies
- RHEV or oVirt
- VMware vSphere
- KVM / Libvirt
- OVS
- You have an excellent understanding of networking protocols such as (DHCP, DNS, IP Multicast, VXLAN, STT, NFS, HTTPS) and how to troubleshoot general network issues.
- You have storage skills, preferably in EMC and Gluster FS;
- You have experience with Backup, preferably AVAMAR and Spectralogic;
- Experience with monitoring, preferably Zabbix, Dataminer;
- You love to code in Python, Ruby, and Bash;
- You work with ELK, Gitlab, Grafana;
- You understand very well from experience that keeping a system operational 24/7/365 means a lot of automation, smart design, and rigorous testing.
- Experience in monitoring and troubleshooting performance issues
- You have experience using configuration management tools such as Puppet, Ansible, Chef, or CfEngine
- You have excellent sysadmin skills on Centos/RHEL
